INSEI organizes "Visual impairment and inclusive education" study day

On September 19, theInstitut National Supérieur de Formation et de Recherche pour l'Éducation Inclusive (INSEI) is organizing a study day entitled "Visual impairment and inclusive education Finding, creating, sharing, being: Resource(s) for blind and partially-sighted students".

Combining conferences, workshops, round-table discussions and exhibitors, it is an opportunity to meet and update knowledge offered by INSEI's specialized team (trainers and researchers) in visual impairment, in partnership with ICEVI Europe and INJA. Aimed at teachers and anyone with an interest in visually impaired young people, it will feature presentations of some of the research and innovations coming out of researchers and professionals in the field, and will be an opportunity for teachers and other professionals to share their experiences and the resources they have devised.

On the program:

  • Conferences - From the accessibility of a teaching resource to its implementation in a UEE: geometry research with Pliox (Frédéric Dupré, INSEI and Cécile Clément, Ides Paris)
  • Shared reading and tactile books: how to adapt practices to support language development and comprehension in a family-school continuum (Florence Bara, Université de Toulouse and Carolane Mascle, Université de Strasbourg)
  • Tactitdigit'Art project: an iconotheque of tactile images (Florence Bernard, INSEI)
  • Presentation of the MOOC "Handicap visuel : comprendre et agir pour l'inclusion" and the Revue Interdisciplinaire sur le Handicap Visuel (Dannyelle Valente, University of Geneva)
  • Research to improve braille learning through the pleasure of touch: an overview of ongoing research (Benjamin Mathieu, Université d'Aix-Marseille)
  • Experiential educational strategies with visually impaired students (Mickaël Duveau Hoarau, Quentin Balestan and Hadrien Thomas, Guinot training center)

A round-table discussion

  • The "resource person" mission: what's at stake? What practices? With specialized teachers, ANPEA representatives and young people concerned

Workshops

  • Tacti'cartes à histoires: listening, playing, understanding and telling with illustrated tactile cards: a springboard to early literacy (Marjolaine Baillet, Inja and Sophie Blain, Les Doigts qui rêvent)
  • Lego Braille workshops: motivating students, sharing practices and promoting an inclusive, innovative method for learning Braille through play (Marc Angelier and Marie Odoux, Abracadabraille)
  • Braille learning: using the step-by-step braille manual "Le braille dans tous les sens" (Éric Obyn, Inja)
  • Emoti'sens: discovery of an innovative multisensory tool for working on emotional skills with visually impaired children in a fun and accessible way; presentation of practical sequences with children (Dannyelle Valente, University of Geneva and Caroline Chabaud, Mes mains en or).
  • Livre Atelier sensory trunks (Cathie Guignardat, Le Livre Atelier)
  • SDADV tactile image games (Anne Chotin and Mathieu Gaborit, INSEI)
